I need to buy a car, What Do I DO

Where Should I Start Looking?

Start on the internet at places like autotrader.com, cars.com, and vehix.com.  These sites have both new and used cars listed for sale from dealers and private individuals.

Should I Buy New Or Used?

A two-year-old used car will cost alot less than a new, but there is the concern about buying someone else’s headache.  A good mechanic should be able to tell whether the used car you are considering is in good shape and has not been in a major accident You can also check out the cars reliability on line.  The thing to remember is that a properly selected and well maintained 3 or 4 year old used car  will give you just as good service as a new car for a lot less money.

Should I Buy From A Dealer Or Private Individual?

Buying a car from a private party can sometimes get you a great deal. The thing to remember; once you hand this person your money, you own the car. If anything goes wrong with it, you pay for it.  Buying from a dealer will get you some sort of warranty, even if it is the minimum required by state law.  In either case, make sure you have it checked by a mechanic that you  trust and that you get a clean title.

Should I Pay Cash Or Buy Over Time?

Interest rates on used cars tend to be higher so if you can pay cash do so.  Often manufacturers will have special programs for first time buyers but your credit has to be established to qualify or you may have to get a co-signer on a loan.

How Do I Know If I’m Getting A Good Deal?

Research the car on the internet at sites like Kelly Blue Book and Edmunds..  These sites can give you what values of cars are.
